Activity Patterns of Anadromous Fish below a Tide Gate: Observations from High?Resolution Imaging Sonar

چکیده
The construction of dams and tide gates on waterways has altered the physical structure many coastal, estuarine, freshwater systems. These changes have come at a cost to fish populations, most notably diadromous species, which rely connectivity between marine anthropogenic structures can direct effects migrating fish, such as blocking passage, or more subtle effects, changing movement patterns. This study used high-resolution Adaptive Resolution Imaging Sonar examine behavior Striped Bass Morone saxatilis, large coastal predator, Alewife Alosa pseudoharengus Blueback Herring aestivalis (collectively known river herring), are forage below gate River in Wellfleet, Massachusetts, during herring spring spawning run. were persistently present downstream exhibited strong diurnal tidal Activity was highest night ebb tides. While it documented that provided impediment migration, their effect predator could pose an additional challenge herring, further complicating recovery efforts. Due prevalence obstructed waterways, studying around is important understanding full range impacts these systems under varying ecological conditions relationships.

Riding the crimson tide: mobile terrestrial consumers track phenological variation in spawning of an anadromous fish.
When resources are spatially and temporally variable, consumers can increase their foraging success by moving to track ephemeral feeding opportunities as these shift across the landscape; the best examples derive from herbivore-plant systems, where grazers migrate to capitalize on the seasonal waves of vegetation growth. We evaluated whether analogous processes occur in watersheds supporting sp...

in the past couple of decades sociocultural theory of sla and its implications in efl contexts have attracted attentions of research circles worldwide and aroused some controversies. firth and wagner (1997) have questioned the principles of the cognitive view which gives importance to mental constructs in favor of sociocultural view which highlights social and contextual constructs. but if soci...

We present a novel framework for analysis and visualization of fish schools in 3D sonar surveys. The 3D sonar technology is new and there are no applications to visualize the data in 3D. We have created an application called Sonar Explorer that satisfies the requirements of domain scientists. Sonar Explorer provides easy and intuitive semi-automatic fish school tracking and survey map generatio...
متن کاملLine Extraction from Mechanically Scanned Imaging Sonar
The extraction of reliable features is a key issue for autonomous underwater vehicle navigation. Imaging sonars can produce acoustic images of the surroundings of the vehicle. Despite of the noise, the phantoms and reflections, we believe that they are a good source for features since they can work in turbid water where other sensors like vision fail. Moreover, they can cover wide areas increme...

[2] We present a 26 day time series (October 2010) of physical properties (volume flux, flow velocity, expansion rate) of a vigorous deep-sea hydrothermal plume measured using our Cabled Observatory Vent Imaging Sonar (COVIS), which is connected to the Northeast Pacific Time Series Underwater Experiment Canada Cabled Observatory at the Main Endeavour Field on the Juan de Fuca Ridge. COVIS quant...
